Shaolin [2011]

Shaolin strikes me as one of the best movies ever made as it combines the likes of Nicholas Tse, Andy Lau and Jackie Chan.  The movie shows little about romance, but is filled with and exciting journey of a previous dictator which is remorseful towards his previous actions, particularly when he was the one betrayed by his most trusted soldier. If you are unsure about what Shaolin is all about, do get The Shaolin Monastery: History, Religion, and the Chinese Martial Arts to know more.

Jackie Chan, looking a little more 'healthy' serves as a cook, but his contribution as a 'guest star' is not as little as one would expect as he managed to pull off several 'trademark Jackie Chan' stuns which were very pleasent to see.  The mood of the movie itself is gripping, making you sink even more in the atmosphere.  A must watch movie.  It deserves more praise than it has been given.

The Tourist (2010)

The Tourist is an amazing movie. It's slow, but you won't get bored. I assure you. Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie were both awesome, and the twist and turns in the movie will make you drool for more.  Jolie is all class, and she has this aura every male would feel the need to turn their heads and take a good look at her.  Depp on the other hand is fantastic in his role, and making you clueless with his always 'blur' look.  One thing I must tell you, you should not believe what you see and don't mistake this for an action packed movie because it isn't action all the way.

As far as I am concern, this is a MUST WATCH MOVIE for 2010.  An awesome.. awesome movie...

The Tattooist (2007)

The Tattooist is a decent movie revolving on tattoos (obviously) and the tattooist. A pinch of pride came to me when a scene showed an Iban tattoo, which is very popular in Sarawak, but maybe not around the globe.

While the movie itself is heavily linked to the Samoan tattoo traditions, the art of tattooing itself is very much unique. Anyway, the movie is presentable, and sexy in a way (since I do think that tattoos at certain areas are kind of sexy and hot, although I do not want my g or myself to have one).

The good part is that the movie is easy to understand, and does not have much twist to confuse you, but that proves to be the problem with the movie which is too simple and largely ordinary without any particular effects.

Nonetheless, the movie is decent enough to watch, and it is interesting to see how tattoos are made.

District 9 (2009)

With huge rave reviews on this movie, I was really excited to watch it. Nonetheless, upon its first few scenes, I realized it was done in a documentary way, which was kind of cool. The storyline was good, and the movie itself was decent. Throughout the whole movie, the word ‘discrimination’ was lurking in my mind because it the movie does portray how bad humans can become in difficult situations. Nonetheless, this isn’t a must watch movie, and I have my reservations on how it ends. Apart from that, I just felt that it was kind of gross to know that some humans believe absurd things like eating alien flesh can give you super human power. Not a must watch, but a fine movie at the very least.

Push (2009)

I've tried watching Push for over 5 times, and each time, I end up unable completing to finish it. It maybe due to the story line, or I was kind of occupied, but Push is in fact not one of the best movies I've actually watched. The start looked promising with people having extra ordinary powers, but after that.. there is a lot of chasing and unwanted turn of events which makes the movie less interesting.

My humble opinion would for you to go for some other action flick, because this movie just doesn't cut it as a good action movie. The only plus point is that I liked looking at Camilla Belle whom looks really innocent and sweet in this movie. I'd say it is just not worth to watch, adding to the fact why I slept half-way through the whole movie several times.

Final Destination 4 (2009)

Final Destination 4 ain't the best of its family. Despite having resounding gore and blood, it isn't as good as Final Destination 2. Maybe it's because of it's predictability or lack of creativity, or maybe because you can memorize how the next chain of events would lead to the demise of someone. The introduction itself was quite lame if compared to the other Final Destinations.

Despite that, the movie is still worth a watch, but I honestly felt it would suit better for a home video. For fans of Final Destination, be ready to be dissapointed with this sequel, but if it's your first time.. I am very sure that you'd enjoy watching people die. One particular thing which bothered me was the lack of truth in the movie, like how bones could be crushed flat. Gory scenes, are best when they are realistic. Finally, Final Destination 4 is not a full waste of a movie, but not really the best. Hopefully, the next Final Destination movie would be better.

Last House On The Left [2009]

This movie is appropriately deemed at 18PL by the Malaysian government as it is perfectly brutal and sexual, but those thinking it has steamy scenes should think again. The movie is very brutal, and it is not suitable for children, but if you want to scare your child and avoid them from talking to or following strangers, then this is the movie to ask them to watch, although, I'd doubt they would understand what is going on.

I fully recommend this movie for teens tough, especially girls whom think they are 'invincible' and love to go out at night.

The movie describes what happens two two teenage girls (Mari and Paige) whom decide to follow and be-friend a total stranger (Justin), which then finds them being forced to follow a convicted man (Krug), while being sexually abused and molested during the whole course. After being raped by Krug, Mari motivated herself to swim back to her parents vacation house, while Paige was stabbed to death. The movie goes on highlighting how Krug and gang became instant house guest to Mari's parents due to an incoming storm, and how Krug's members were brutally murdered by Mari's parents upon knowing that Krug has raped his daughter.

Of all the movies this year, I think that this is a must watch movie. The cast of the movie played their roles to perfection, and the action looks nothing short of realistic. A reminder for the ladies tough, do watch this movie with companions or a companion as this is a movie which can do huge damage, emotionally.

Eagle Eye

Caught it @ METROWEALTH CINEPLEX, KUCHING
Its 1 HOUR & 59
MINUTES of COMPUTER GLITCHES!!
You should catch it because you YOU'D WONDER WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF WE DEPENDED OF COMPUTER TOO MUCH

You should not watch this movie if you ARE NOT INTO HI-TECH CRAP.

The trailer would suggest that this is one of those 'must see' movies, but I'd like to rebuff that. I had a typical different idea of the movie from the trailer, and looking at it made a whole new meaning. It was a typical 'robot domination' movie, and I think I have seen a movie similar a few years back. There's a few elements which made you think this is an X-men movie, but there is also some pretty lame stuff, especially when it comes to cops chasing the supposed to be bad guy.

The ending was typical, and as far as the plot goes... it wasn't that amazing. I actually loved the idea that someone mysterious was able to give instructions to some random guy/girl through the phone, but as the story progressed, I was left dissapointed due to its typical storyline which pretty much reflected guy gets chased as a bad person by authorities, guy tries to prove his innosence, and everything is forgiven once the culprit is know. Nonetheless, the good effects covered the ordinary plot, and this was a movie I enjoyed. Nevertheless, I don't hink this is a movie I'd like to see for a second time due to its ordinary storyline.

21

Caught it @ STAR CINEPLEX, KUCHING
Its 2 HOUR & 2 MINUTES of story telling.
You should catch it because YOU WANT TO LEARN HOW TO COUNT CARDS IN VEGAS.
You should not watch this movie if DON'T SEE THE POINT OF COUNTING CARDS.

The trailer of 21 was interesting. I admit I went to see this movie because the trailer made it interesting. Nonetheless, all those thoughts changed once I was in the hall, watching the movie. The plot is lame, and predictable. The story is slow, despite taking place mostly in 'happening' Vegas.

If you wonder what this movie is about, I'll give you some spoilers because I do feel that this movie is not really worth your money. Its generally about a 21 year old genius, wanting to go to Harvard Med, but having insufficient funds at disposal. He eventually go enticed to join a group of MIT students under one professor which count cards in Vegas during the weekend. Well, he got really into it, and got cocky, which led to him loosing $300000 in a single night. This made the professor angry, and hence he was the new leader of the group. However, being novice in leadership, he got caught counting cards, and eventually signed up with a security casino personnel which asked him to fish out the professor, which he actually did successfully.

The story ends with him getting in Harvard, and him getting back with his old friends which he lost along the process of being a the best in counting cards.

Ahh.. I told you the plot was boring and lame. Don't bother watching this movie, unless you want to spend 2 hours dozing out in the cinema.

Susuk

Where I watched it: Metrowealth Cineplex, Kuching
Duration: 1 Hour 55 mins
Description: Weird & Confusing
Should you watch this? : Skip this one. Save your money

I actually caught this movie because of how good of a ratings it had on one of the online movie sites gave. SUSUK is a Malaysian horror movie which revolves on voodoo, and spells to gain fame and glory. Nonetheless, despite having top actors like Ida Narina and Soffea Jane, i have to say that this is not a movie you should spend you money on. I doubt you'd end up understanding the plot, and despite the convincing acting shown, the plot of the movie is the main failure.

The main cause of disappointment towards to movie is the lack of explanation, and the huge derailment of the plot. I walked into the cineplex hoping for a lot of voodoo, and action.. but what I got was slow action, little voodoo... and a huge wondering on what actually happened in the movie. At the end of the day, I could figure out the movie, but still.... I felt there is so many untold tales, making this movie a NO-GO from my perspective.

HANCOCK

Where I watched it: STAR Cineplex, Kuching
Duration: 1 Hour 32 mins
Description: Great
Should you watch this? : YES!!

By all means, this is not the average superhero movie. As far as I am concern, a Will Smith movie has never disappointed me and this is no exception. The movie star's Hancock, which is played by Will Smith whom has supernatural powers(sort of like Superman, without those laser eyes). He is a drunkard, and saves people in the most unorthodox methods, that most New Yorkers hate him due to his high destruction rate to the city's property. Nonetheless, this all changed after he saves the life of PR executive, Ray Embrey whom tries to change Hancock into an iconic figure he should be. The movie also touches on how Hancock gets his powers, and how he meets his ultimate soul through Ray.

To be frank, the plot of the movie is simple, and I was kind of dissapointed to the fact that the middle end part of the movie was not as explosive as I expected. Nonetheless, with the tagline "not your average superhero", I guess, the storyline is also not the typical 'superhero' storyline, and with an ending such as what I saw, I bet my money that there would soon be a Hancock 2. I'd rate this movie at 4/5, as it is worth the money!

The Incredible Hulk

Where I watched it: STAR Cineplex, Kuching
Duration: 1 Hour 53 mins
Description: Great
Should you watch this? : YES!!

One of the famous comic adaptations which made waves when it was first introduced. The movie synopsis is as follows:
A cure is in reach for the world's most primal force of fury: THE INCREDIBLE HULK. We find scientist Bruce Banner, living in shadows, scouring the planet for an antidote. But the warmongers who dream of abusing his powers won't leave him alone, nor will his need to be with the only woman he has ever loved, Betty Ross. Upon returning to civilization, our brilliant doctor is ruthlessly pursued by The Abomination -- a nightmarish beast of pure adrenaline and aggression whose powers match The Hulk's own. A fight of comic-book proportions ensues as Banner must call upon the hero within to rescue New York City from total destruction. One scientist must make an agonizing final choice -- accept a peaceful life as Bruce Banner or the creature he could permanently become: THE INCREDIBLE HULK.
I felt that the movie passed my marks with flying colours, and I could easily recommend it to anyone. The cinematography in the movie was just fantastic. Acting wise was above average, and the plot of the story was crystal clear. I'm very sure that those whom enjoy action flick movies would enjoy this movie. Highly recommended by all means and I give it a 4/5!

DOOMSDAY (2008)

Where I watched it: STAR Cineplex, Kuching
Duration: 1 Hour 45 Mins
Description: So-so..
Should you watch this? : NO...

A movie without any stars, and it is decent. I'll admit. But, other than that, I didn't feel the movie was up to my standards. It starts with the Reaper virus spreading around the world, forcing a total quarantine of the whole world, and forcing a section only to be guarded and shielded from the devastating virus. To cut a long story short, Eden Sinclair was asked to find out how some humans in the quarantine area managed to survive the virus, and that is when the actual movie begins. During their quest, they were hunted down, and this is when you could see how uncivilized and how bad a world could be without any proper rules and regulations.

I can't say much over the movie as I do find movies like Resident Evil to be more appealing. The movie was kind of weak, and I didn't like the ending. There was a lot of sections in the movie which I thought was exaggerated, and too unrealistic. In fact, I kept wondering when the movie would end as there was always a moment when I felt the movie was at its climax, but in the end... it just wasn't that. In addition to that, the Malaysian Censorship Board removed lots and lots of scenes, making the movie in a total disarray, and I have to wonder why the 18PL tag should be used at all on DOOMSDAY. I should have waited for this movie to hit the TV stations, as it was far from what I expected, and at the end of the day, was just a waste of time and money. I'll give it a 2/5
